Rainman Desalination | Sphinx Solutions
1500+ Client Case Studies Proving Our Results-driven Approach

Project Overview

Sphinx Solutions worked with Rainman Desalination, an Australian company that makes portable desalination systems. Their AC Electric Watermaker helps people on boats or in remote areas turn seawater into fresh drinking water. The goal of this project was to build a mobile app for Android and iOS that connects to the watermaker and helps users see what’s happening inside the machine in real-time.

Our team created an app that uses Bluetooth to pair with the watermaker. Once connected, users can track things like pressure levels, system status, and runtime on their phones. If anything goes wrong, the app shows fault signals right away. We additionally introduced an assist phase with videos, consumer manuals, and step-by-step guides to ensure users can without difficulty restoration common issues on their own. The layout is easy and clean to apply, even in rough outdoor situations.

The result is a smart companion app that makes using the Rainman watermaker a lot simpler. It allows users to stay up to date, restoration troubles quicker, and preserve the whole lot running smoothly. Now available on the Play Store and App Store, the app brings a generation into a tool that many vacationers and sailors depend on every day.

Client Requirement

Bluetooth Device Pairing Rainman wanted the app to connect with their AC Electric Watermaker using Bluetooth so users could monitor the machine without any cables.
Live System Monitoring They needed real-time updates on pressure levels, runtime, and overall system performance, directly on the user’s phone.
Instant Fault Alerts The client asked for a system that could instantly detect and notify users about any faults or errors during operation.
Help and Support Section They deliberate to consist of movies, manuals, and troubleshooting courses to help humans resolve issues without the want for specialist help.
User-Friendly Interface The app had to be smooth and easy to use, even in outdoor or moist situations where users are probably carrying gloves.
Reliable Performance in Remote The app needed to be lightweight and stable, so it works smoothly in places with limited internet or tough environments like the open sea or off-grid setups.

Problem Statement

Rainman Desalination had a powerful product, the AC Electric Watermaker, but they noticed a gap in how users interacted with it. Most consumers relied on hardcopy manuals, guessed system performance, or waited until something went wrong before acting.    Rainman Desalination had a powerful product, the AC Electric Watermaker, but they noticed a gap in how users interacted with it. Most consumers relied on hardcopy manuals, guessed system performance, or waited until something went wrong before acting

There was no method for customers to receive real-time updates or notifications, making the overall experience less efficient and occasionally annoying, particularly for those using the product in distant or tough situations.

They wanted a way to make the watermaker smarter, something that could help users stay informed, catch issues early, and manage everything from their phone. However, because this was intended to link a machine to a mobile app through Bluetooth, it necessitated careful planning, correct hardware connectivity.

Furthermore, the app has to feature properly even without net connectivity, offer step-by-step instructions, and be simple enough for all of us to apply, whether on a ship or off-grid. Rainman sought a tech partner that could comprehend these real-world difficulties and transform them into a functional mobile solution. That’s when they approached Sphinx Solutions.

Solutions Statement

To solve the core issues, our team at Sphinx Solutions designed and developed a custom Android app that connects directly to the Rainman AC Electric Watermaker using Bluetooth. This allowed users to pair their phones with the device and get live system data right on the screen. They could now easily check pressure levels, system status, and runtime without opening the machine or relying on guesswork.

We also added a smart fault detection feature. When there is a problem, such as a drop in pressure or anything not working properly, the app provides an instant notice. In addition, we established a complete support centre that includes videos, troubleshooting hints, and downloadable manuals. This made it simple for users to correct minor errors on their own, without the need for assistance or printed instructions.

The design crew prioritised an easy, glove-friendly interface that plays well in harsh situations, like aquatic situations. The utility is lightweight, runs properly even without a web connection, and provides an easy, pressure-free experience. Overall, we modified a famous gadget into a networked, user-friendly device that is less difficult to operate, hold, and depend upon.

We're proud to have performed a function in supporting Rainman modernise their solution and make freshwater get entry to more intuitive for their international users.”

Implementation Step

Understanding the Hardware & User Needs  We first spent time learning how the Rainman watermaker works and what kind of information users needed most, like pressure levels, faults, and runtime details.
Planning Bluetooth Integration Since Bluetooth was the only means to link the app to the machine, we designed the communication to be stable, speedy, and energy efficient.
Designing a Simple, Functional UI  We designed screens that were easy to understand, even in outdoor or marine conditions. The layout focused on quick access to live data and fault alerts.
Developing Core Features  We built the app’s main features, live monitoring, fault alerts, help centre, and system settings, making sure they all worked smoothly together.
Testing in Real Scenarios Our QA group tested the app in a variety of contexts, which include low-net zones and on-the-go situations, to make certain that the whole thing remained dependable and responsive.
Launching & Supporting the App We posted the app on the Google Play Store after receiving patron clearance. After release, we endured to provide updates, computer virus fixes, and technical useful resource to ensure that it ran without problems.
