WoW Parenting
Coaching for the parents rather than the children. Video courses across five kinds of intelligence, quizzes pitched at your child’s age, and an expert panel and a community of other parents to ask when you are stuck.
Overview
Parenting is harder than it looks and comes with a great many challenges nobody warns you about. WoW Parenting was built to train parents for the job.
Narendra Godani, a well-known parenting coach, had the idea for a digital platform for parenting courses but was not sure how to build it.
After a long search he came to Sphinx Solutions. With 16 years of experience behind us we took the concept on and built the mobile applications to carry it.
The premise is a serious one. Children are sensitive, a step in the wrong direction can matter for years, and most parents are working it out as they go, whether that is starting a difficult conversation or knowing how to correct a child without doing harm.
WoW Parenting saw that this stage of adult life gets very little structured support, and built the coaching for it. By their own account the platform has trained more than 23,000 parents.
The idea was distinctive and building the platform from scratch was the hard part: it had to carry advanced features while staying genuinely easy for anybody to use.
Two interfaces, one for parents and one for the administrators, with a backend deep enough to hold a full course library.
The courses are divided across five kinds of intelligence: social, performance, identity, communication and emotional. That is a lot of structured content, and the backend had to hold and serve it properly.
They wanted login and sign-up, push notifications, chat, and courses split into modules with video, all in an interface that never gets in the way.
Hardest of all was the community. Building the foundation for parents to talk to each other, and to parenting experts, is a different problem from serving a course library, and they wanted both in the same app.
Sphinx Solutions delivered the iOS and Android applications, with an intuitive interface, push notifications, chat and payment.
The result is a companion application that mentors parents through the challenges rather than lecturing them about the theory.
“Sphinx Solutions have helped us build highly intuitive, secure and robust web and mobile applications. What they deployed has helped us establish ourselves as an exclusive parent coaching platform.”
Tech stack
What people usually ask about WoW Parenting and about building something like it.
Define the requirements, research the market and the audience, settle the business model, choose the platforms and the tech stack, design the interface, build the front end and back end, test for usability and performance, then launch to the app stores.
It trains the parent rather than tracking the child. WoW Parenting is a course platform: video lessons, quizzes and practical scenarios covering the situations parents meet, with an expert panel and a community of other parents alongside them.
Finishing. A library of good videos is not the difficult part; getting somebody to come back for the fourth lesson is. That is why the quizzes are age-rated, the scenarios are practical and the community sits in the same app: each one is a reason to open it again.
