What Is Computer Vision?

Computer vision is the branch of AI that lets machines make sense of visual information — images, video, the physical world around them. The basic idea is similar to how human eyes and brains work together to recognize a face or read a sign, except here it’s algorithms, machine learning, and deep learning models doing the processing instead of a brain.

It shows up in a lot of places: facial recognition, medical imaging, self-driving cars, quality inspection on a factory line. Businesses generate a huge amount of visual data now, and computer vision is mostly how that data actually becomes useful — better security, better customer experience, operations that don’t need someone manually checking every image.
