After lots of critics in the previous Windows 8.1, Windows 10 is back with an intuitive, custom “Start Menu”. Left, Start Menu column has a list of recently installed software, frequently used applications, and folders.

Right Start Menu consists of a grid of app tiles that will show you updates of social media, weather, news, Sport etc.

You can also make the Start Menu full-screen through the “expand” button – it gives an experience of the tablet or smartphone screen for a desktop.

On Windows 10, Cortana is in the form of a search box which is located beside the Start menu button. It allows you to perform multiple tasks of web and your computer.  You can use it to send and dictate emails, browse file, control music, and launch apps. Just say “Hey, Cortana, “show me videos,” and it will quickly run the search query.

4. Edge- A new Browser: Microsoft succumbed with the browsing demand of the 21st century.  Edge has been introduced a new, stripped-down browser featured with reading mode and Cortana integration codenamed “Project Spartan.”  Similar to Chrome and Firefox Edge supports pen interactions. You can write or type notes directly on web pages and share them with social media and other sharing sites.

5.  OneDrive to Access any of your file from Another System:

Windows 10 allows you to access any of your files from another computer. Say – you have an important presentation at your office PC. You are somewhere else and want to access that- Yes Windows 10 enables to do so.

Right click on the OneDrive icon in your notification tray, and click on Settings. You’ll see an option that reads ‘Let me use OneDrive to fetch any of my files on this PC.’ Then simply open OneDrive via the Start Menu to restart the service.

Limitation: Your desktop should be turned on and should be connected to the internet.

6. Universal apps:  Windows Universal applications such as Mail, Calendar, People, Photos, OneNote, Groove Music, Movies & TV, the News, Money, Weather, and several others are far better than their Windows 8 counterparts as they are speedy and responsive. Windows 10 apps have been designed to dynamically shift their interfaces to fit into all other windows devices such as Smartphone.

7. Holograms:  As an attempt of Microsoft to engross its customers – “Windows Holographic,” is the most exciting features of Windows 10. With HoloLens glasses, users can interact with holograms.

With HoloStudio app, users can create 3-D objects with their voices and then print them on a 3-D printer. HoloLens is embedded with a holographic processing chip that understands the gestures, voice, and intent of the user.

8. Continuum: It is the design interface of Windows 10 which enables to serve its separate “desktop” and “tablet” modes.  When Windows 10 enabled device is connected to a monitor, mouse, and keyboard it acts like a PC. In case of hybrid devices, e.g. Microsoft Surface – able to transition seamlessly between the two modes.

 11Longer Support

Every product has a life cycle so Windows 8 series had. Interesting facts are still hidden why there is no Windows 9 series. Anyways, probably Microsoft is trying to make themselves as per the expectations of the next generation, so might they have directly thought to take a fresh start with Windows 10.

12. Security:  Windows 10 has enhanced security features from its successors Windows 7 and 8.1. ‘Device Guard’ prevents possible attacks by vetting unsigned software programs and apps. Device Guard operates virtually so even if it is compromised a remote version can recognize and neutralize malicious software. In addition to tightening security Windows Hello’ biometric support is designed to minimize dependence on passwords by using your face, iris, or fingerprints. You’ll need a webcam, fingerprint reader, its hardware support for this on your device.

Summary: Though Microsoft is trying to give users a next-generation experience through its Windows 10 series. Still, there are lots of glitches and pitfalls that need to be fixed. Undoubtedly a lot of updates has to come from Microsoft for its performance refinement.
